Hamilton Dance Studio is dedicated to providing the highest quality education in a variety of dance forms such as ballet, modern, jazz, tap, hip-hop, and break dancing.  These dance classes cater to all types of children, from those who are preparing for a dance career to those learning to dance for enrichment and fun. We promote technique and artistry, as well as a strong work ethic and provide a warm, down-to-earth, supportive environment.

Rita Hamilton established the Hamilton Dance Studio to share her enthusiasm for dance and love of teaching, to provide a venue for top-notch dance education in Brooklyn, and to continue the 50-year family tradition of Jimmy Hamilton’s Dance Corner in Philadelphia.

Now entering our 25th season, Hamilton Dance has a well-earned reputation as one of the finest studios outside of Manhattan and has become a landmark in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, also drawing students from nearby Williamsburg and Bushwick neighborhoods.  To further serve our community, we are pleased to open our second location in Ridgewood, Queens, which is also local to Bushwick, as well as the Maspeth, Glendale, and Middle Village neighborhoods. Over time, we have not only grown but have expanded and introduced new dance forms as they evolve, including Hip Hop and Break, to our class roster.

Our commitment to excellence was recognized by being the first recipients of the Bobby Short Scholarship from the American Tap Dance Foundation in 2005.  This honor gave Hamilton Dance students scholarships to attend the New York City Tap Festival “Tap City.”

Hamilton Dance embraces all students from those who want an entry point for career training to those who just want to move to music.  Besides classes in technique, students experience the joy of dance, learning physical expression, co-ordination, discipline and teamwork.  Classes are enriched with discussion of dance history, music and rhythm, and video observation of the best professionals and performances. While we foster artistry and a vigorous work ethic, students at Hamilton Dance also make life-long friendships and have fun!

The school year culminates with our now famous Annual Recital where all students get to have a real on-stage experience matched to their ability level.  While working together, Hamilton Dance students leave with an understanding of the building blocks for success in dance and in life.

Teachers are involved in the progress of each student, look out for special talent, and provide advice on the next steps for education, professional advancement, competitions, and specialty school auditions. Our dedicated and distinguished faculty members are all actively performing in their fields.  They are attuned to the needs of proper training for young muscles and the importance of proper technique for good dance skill as well as long-term health. 

RITA HAMILTON
Hamilton Dance Studio is a family and Rita knows everyone personally. 
Founder/Owner/Artistic Director Rita Hamilton literally grew up in a dance studio.  Her father Jimmy, a professional tap dancer, comedian and night club MC, became known as one of the best teachers in Philadelphia, and her mother was on the faculty of Jimmy Hamilton’s Dance Corner.  Rita earned a degree in theater from DeSales University in Pennsylvania and then embarked on a professional career that included performing, choreographing and teaching.  She choreographed musical theater for Off-Broadway, regional theaters and the Philadelphia Mummers Day Parade. Rita Hamilton is a proud member of "The New American Tap Dance Orchestra".  Continuing her father’s legacy, she combined all these disciplines and founded Hamilton Dance Studio in 1987.
